Cold Weather Causes Crowded Buses

With the temperatures falling lower and lower, making it to class becomes even harder for many students. Some people still walk from class to class while others drive. But the biggest trend many students seem to follow is taking a trip on the Go West Transit.

Anyone who has been on one of these buses in the last two weeks can tell you how important it is to get to the bus stop extra early. Most buses get packed to maximum capacity at each stop. This causes the ride to take a little longer than usual and can also leave some people waiting for the next bus to come.

With a limited number of buses running throughout the day, the Go West Transit is only useful to students who actually have time to wait for one. There have been many students who get to the bus stop a little too late and find themselves late for class. Many people will offer advice on how to catch a bus, and they all recommend leaving five to ten minutes earlier than usual.

The Go West Transit is a great way to get around campus, but when it gets cold outside, it can get very crowded.

Well, a few things:
1) I am sorry that youve found it hard to get a ride. That is not how I want our system to be portrayed. It does get busy when it gets extra cold.
2) a "limited" number of buses? one routes 1 and 2 at any given time during peak, we have 27 buses an hour running. thats a LOT of busses. You cant go to chicago and find more on a given route.
3) Getting to the bus stop late: We always say that for the scheduled routes, you should be there early. missing the bus is never an excuse for being late to class. You cant walk as fast as the bus gets you there, and that means that if you missed the bus, you couldnt make it to class on time anyway. Youre right, you need to be earlier, regardless.
4) We are currently working on ways to increase capacity in the peaks. I think we have a plan that will even increase the numbers of buses during peaks above what we have now.

I turly appreicate you taking the time to give your thoughts (and take a pic!).

Thank you for your comment. I didn't mean to portray Go West in a bad way at all, I was just trying to come up with a story that related to me, and since I ride the bus everyday I thought this was a good idea. I understand that you as a company do everything you can to keep the buses running on schedule, and that is greatly appreciated by all of us who ride them frequently. If it's not a problem, I would be interested in hearing about your plans for increased buses.

Thank you again for the comment and your thoughts!
